Step 2: Choose a League Format
Decide on the league type:
Seasonal League – lasts the entire NBA season
Daytime Fantasy League (DFS) – one-day competitions
Draft League – teams select players one by one
Auction League – participants “buy” players for a virtual budget
Choose a scoring format:
Category Format (H2H Categories) – wins in each statistical category
Points Format (H2H Points) – total points for all player actions
Roto Format – all categories are constantly tracked throughout the season
Decide on the league size:
Number of participating teams (usually 8 to 16)
Roster size (usually 13-15 players)
Number of starting positions by position
Step 3: Study the rules and scoring system
Familiarize yourself with the rules of the chosen leagues:
Roster structure
Player position restrictions
Substitution and transfer rules
Deadlines and deadlines
Learn the scoring system:
What actions award points (points, rebounds, assists, etc.)
How many points are awarded for each action
Are there negative points (e.g. for turnovers)
Special bonuses (e.g. for a double-double or triple-double)
Build your strategy around the scoring system:
Determine which statistical categories are most valuable
Decide what type of players to bet on
Step 4: Prepare for the draft
Learn the NBA roster:
Star players and their stats
Rookies and promising young players
Injured or questionable players
Create a ranked list of players:
Ranked players by position
Mark the players you want to draft first
Create a list “dark horses” and underrated players
Research trends and predictions for the season:
Roster changes
New coaches and their playing styles
Changes in player rotation
Run mock drafts:
Use the “mock draft” feature on your platform of choice
Test different draft strategies
Determine the optimal sequence of player selections
Step 5: Participate in the draft
Prepare for the draft technically:
Check the stability of your internet connection
Make sure your device is working properly
Log in early (15-20 minutes before the start)
Follow your draft strategy:
For early rounds: select the Best Player Available
For mid-rounds: fill the necessary positions
For late rounds: select players with high upside
Adapt as the draft progresses:
Monitor other participants’ picks
Adjust your strategy based on available players
Don’t panic if your target player is selected by another participant
Fill all the positions on the roster:
Point Guard (PG)
Shooting Guard (SG)
Small Forward (SF)
Power Forward (PF)
Center (C)
UTIL
Bench
Step 6: Create a Balanced Roster
Ensure Balance by Stat Category:
Recruit players who are strong in different categories
Avoid over-strengthening one category at the expense of others
Balance the Roster by Position:
Ensure quality players at all key positions
Have backup players in case of injuries or rest of the stars
Consider the Game Schedule:
Check how many games your players’ teams play per week
Avoid situations where many of your players rest on the same day
Step 7: Weekly/Daily Roster Management
Actively manage your starting roster:
Check the daily schedule of games
Only line up players who have games
Consider rest breaks for star players
Track injury news:
Subscribe to player status alerts
Replace injured players with healthy ones
Use the injured list (IR) if your league has such an option
Analyze matchups:
Consider the strength of the opponent’s defense
Pay attention to the pace of the teams’ play
Prefer players who play against weak defenses
